CofC Urges Stores to Stay Open for Christmas Season

The Chamber of Commerce asked local merchants to keep open evenings from Thursday December 13 through Christmas Eve. At the YMCA meeting they congratulated the incoming Town Council and new industries, voted a 25 donation to the Y, and welcomed Raymond Gasper and others as new members. The next meeting is December 27 due to holidays.

Exhibits Extended for American Education Week Displays

Due to strong interest in the exhibits for American Education Week local merchants extended the window displays until Monday. Miss Anne D Sisson observance committee chairwoman announced the move with appreciation for merchant generosity. The displays were prepared under Miss Margaret Nerone art supervisor guidance with help from pupils in her classes.

Large PTA Open House Draws Big Turnout

A large turnout of parents attended an open house at Reynolds Walley Oliver and Rockwell elementary schools. Mary Loutre Von Klock spoke on educational TV activities, Edward Fitzgerald on Colt Memorial High School, and a committee was formed to discuss after hours use of school buildings. Sixth graders performed, and non school band uniforms were announced for March.

Colt Places Five In Selections On Weekly Grid

Colt placed five players on the weekly schoolboy football squad after the coaches poll. Herculano Falco and Tony Nast selected for the sixth time, Anthony Da Ponte for the fifth, Rule Travers for the second, and Ronnie Medeiros for the first. Central led with nine nominees. Pawtucket Vokce and Warren top Class C with seven each. Colts players were chosen for performance in the Armistice Day win over Warren, 18 to 7.

Tony Nastri tops Colt scorers in Class C of the Rhode Island Interscholastic Football League with 26 points through last Monday, Anthony Da Ponte second with 18, Nastri fifth in Class C, St Raphael's Bobby Perreault with 15 and 109 points overall, Jim Browning of South Kingstown leading Class C with 41 points.

New Armory to Add Two Sections in Bristol Area

The Department of the Army has authorized two additions to the US Army Reserve armory on Asylum Road. A drill shed and a separate garage are planned. Col Roswell King said invitations for bids have not been scheduled. The main armory is under construction at the old Poor Farm site with walls up and roof soon. Occupation by three reserve units is expected by April next year. The center will be named in memory of a Bristol soldier killed in World War II.

A joint meeting of the Sewer Commission and Planning Board reviewed a proposed trunk sewer on Metacom avenue from McKenzie drive to Gooding avenue. Bristolite Leads Y Volleyball Run as Bristolites Surge

The Bristolites open strong in the MCA Industrial Volleyball League at the Y by winning four straight for the second time in three weeks. Carr's blanks a rival to drop to last with three wins and nine losses while U S Rubber rises to second after taking three of four from TWU 1348. No games next week due to Thanksgiving. Carr's meets Local 1348 in the opener and Bristolites face U S in the finale. Standings show Bristolites 11 1, U S Rubber 6 8, Local 1348 4 8, Carr's 3 6.
