Bristol Fund Drive Totals Reach 329,554.89, Mapes Announces

Bristol leaders report a grand total of 329,554.89 in the Bristol Community United War Fund Drive as of Monday. Chairman Elmer S. Mapes says the drive exceeded estimates and urges last reports from workers before the finale tomorrow night. Funds aid USO and War Relief for Allies. payroll deductions from local factories are especially noted.

Kathleen Flynn of the WAVES Visits Bristol Connection

Kathleen Flynn storekeeper third class of the WAVES visited Saturday morning to brief Dr. Eugene LeClair of Cleveland Ohio about Bristol. Flynn enjoyed the Notre Dame Navy game parade in Cleveland and says naval duties keep her busy though she has some time off. She is staying with her sister at 124 Wood Street and departs Thursday for Cleveland.

Plans Set for Servicemen Holiday Dinner Invites

YMCA secretary Hubert Hill invites Bristol families to host Navy men stationed at Prudence Island for Thanksgiving. He will collect names and arrange guest invitations with Welfare and Recreation Director Myers, noting the number of guests is still being determined.

Chaplains Letter And Commendation For Perroni

Joseph R Perroni, father of missing in action Staff Sergeant Anthony Perroni, received a chaplain letter from the 384th Bombardment Group and a commendation from Colonel Julius K Lacey for meritorious actions on a 1943 mission over Germany. The chaplain assures prayers and continued updates and notes possible POW status. The commendation cites WC gunner Perroni’s cool handling under heavy fighter and flak, praising his conduct and signaling hope for his safety and future reunion with his unit.

United States Rubber War Products Exhibit At Bristol Plant

An exhibit at the Bristol plant of United States Rubber Company showcased war products and cable and wire samples for the Signal Corps Navy and Army. The display included life rafts anti-aircraft gear aviation fuel tanks diving suits and rubber parts for tanks and jeeps among many items. A film illustrated production and uses with plant shots while executives served as guides.

Two Bristol Youths Enlist as Pilots at Maxwell Field

Two local Bristol youths, Joseph C Rezendes Jr and Leo Simmel, reported to the Army Air Forces Pre-Flight School for Pilots at Maxwell Field Alabama to begin pilot training. Rezendes is the son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Rezendes of 104 Bay View Avenue and Simmel is the son of Mr and Mrs William Simmel of 48 Garfield Avenue. Both are graduates of Bristol Senior High School Class of 1943.
