Bean Supper Set by church groups at State Street MF Church

Funeral rites for Frederick E Suzman in town services

Frederick E Suzman died suddenly at his home on Sunday. Funeral services were held at Temple Chavera Aquedas Achim with rabbis Goldman and Smith officiating. Buried at Lincoln Park Cemetery with a large attendance including town officials, Rotary, and various fraternal groups. He was a prominent local merchant born in Poland in 1878 who came to the United States as a boy and built a large menswear business.

Unemployment Census Cards Distributed by Local Post Office

About 6000 unemployment census cards are being handed out by the local post office as part of a national effort to count unemployed people. A Citizens Committee will run a help office in the Post Office building this week with hours in the morning and afternoon and some evenings.

Refugees Reach Hong Kong After Stormy Ocean Passage

A flotilla of refugees from Foochow boarded a gunboat after a delayed ship, finding Hong Kong crowded with escapees from across China. The S S President Jefferson arrived three days late due to a typhoon, leaving hotels full and forcing temporary galley and dining room bunking for families including missionaries and their children amid fear and uncertainty.

Mrs Brewster Recalls Harsh Sea Voyage to Foochow

Mrs Brewster told Brockton Enterprise reporters about a grueling voyage with seasickness that spared no comfort. She described days of high winds a monsoon a 50 mile an hour southeast gale and freezing rain after extreme heat in Foochow leaving her and three seasick children sick and exhausted.

College girls aid mothers as waves rock ship

A few college girls kept balance aboard the vessel and aided Mrs Brewster and other mothers during violent seas. Waves caused chairs to smash across the state room while the ship pitched, nearly scattering Maybelle from a porthole.
