Armistice Day Fittingly Observed in This Town

Bristol marked Armistice Day with a community-led celebration despite no town funds. A 7000-strong crowd joined parades and a holiday atmosphere, recalling 14 years since the victory. Kearney Post hosted a banquet at GAR Hall with 110 attendees and a speech by Rev. Fr. James J. O Reilly on pacemind patriotism.

Guiteras School Building To Undergo Inspection

The School Committee plans a thorough investigation into leaks at Guiteras Memorial Junior High School. Committeemen Howe and Hammill report rain damage and urge permanent repairs with cooperation from Turgeon and the architectural firm. A condolence resolution for janitor John W. Hawes and Dwyer Lead In King and Queen Contest

Meredith Hawes and Francis Dwyer head the King and Queen contest organized by the Country Fair committee as ballots counted by judges show leaders among under 16 contestants. Final winners to be crowned at the Poor Saturday event.

Brightman Wins D A R Essay Prize At Colt Memorial High

Miss Alice Brightman sixteen a senior at Colt Memorial High School won the Bristol Chapter D A R patriotic essay contest. Eight essays were judged by Miss Ina Po Warren Miss Emma Stanton and Miss Mary Spooner. Brightman receives a five dollar gold piece at Friday’s assembly. The chapter also voted to purchase a thirty five dollar Red Cross membership and to plant a foot of land at Kenmore in George Washington’s home. An address on national defense was given by Mrs Arthur Morris and hostess duties were performed by several local wives and Miss Marcia Hear.

Probate Court Sits In Special Session In Town

Probate Court held a Saturday session with Judge Edward I. Leahy presiding. The will of Sarah J. Loughlin was admitted to probate and Mary A O Shaunessy was named executrix with bond set at 1500. Catherine I Hughes and William G Dixon were appointed appraisers. The court also granted Charles A Smith as administrator of Charles Thackery’s estate with notice waived and bond set at 100 with Charlotte I Smith as surety.

Country Fair Brings Beauty to Bristol Armory Grounds

The Country Fair for the Community Athletic Field opens at the Naval Armory next Saturday in Bristol. A grand decorative setup includes a plush roped central area with a rock garden fountain and crystal ball, plus a chandelier and colored lights. A Bristol report shows 60 members replied to the annual Red Cross Roll Call with $437 collected toward the $3,000 target. Exhibits display relief work across town in Belvedere Hotel, YMCA, and Mello's Market windows with support from local merchants.
