Memorial Day Observance Honors War Dead in Bristol

Memorial services for World War II dead were held Friday evening at 7 30 in the Colt Memorial High School auditorium. Edward M. Kavanagh, chaplain of Kearney Post No 6 American Legion, presided and led readings, songs and an address by Department Commander L H Callan. He listed Bristol boys who died in service and two minutes of silence followed. A subsequent disarmament discussion featured Judge Edward L Leahy Rev Thomas J Gillan and Rev James J Goodacre with remarks on peace and war costs.

Bristol School Committee Funds and Facility Uses Report

The Bristol School Committee met at Colt Memorial High School with full board present. Bills totaling 10059.07 were approved. year end funds stood at 27827.45. Actions included allowing Armistice Day events, a Senior Class dance, and a Girl Scouts food sale. purchase of portable scales up to 45. 207 in the Americanization School with 157 average attendance. room use granted for Women Voters and Lyceum events. piano funds discussion. roof repairs under 100. lunch room plans by Merriman and Hobbs with teacher pay 50 cents per hour. schools to close next Wednesday noon for Thanksgiving. truancy and nurse reports accepted. nurse noted 913 attending 16 clinics.

Pythian Sisters Plan Visit and Social Events

At Edgehill Temple G A R Hall last Thursday evening six membership applications were received and a visit to June Temple Riverside is set for Thursday evening Nov 17 for Grand Chief Mrs Emma Brady and grand lodge officers. A special meeting to nominate officers for the ensuing term is announced. A silver tea and whist will be held tomorrow at 8 at Mrs Ida Newtons 168 High street.
