Armistice Day drew large crowds in Bristol with parades rivaling Independence Day crowds from Warren and nearby towns. Ideal weather aided a lengthy procession featuring Kearney Post American Legion units, French box car replica, multiple fire and police groups, Boy Scout troops, college bands, and school students in patriotic attire.
The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company boat shop ended operations Tuesday night for the rest of the week. A 70 foot steel sloop order will start work Monday when production resumes. The National India Rubber Company factory and Cranston Worsted Mills also closed for Armistice Day celebrations.
Attendance at St Marys Church mission for women has been encouraging this week with near-full seating despite the storm. Masses at 530 and other times drew large crowds as mission fathers hope their efforts will not be in vain. The women’s mission ends Sunday afternoon while the men’s mission will open Sunday night.
Charles H Grithn of Providence led readings at the Tuesday evening entertainment and social in the State Street Mob Church under Dads Aid Secrets auspices. Miss Sarah D Bosworth and Miss Gay A Sullivan joined in vocal duets with Miss Helen Remerés on pane selections. Refreshments followed as the sociable period ended. The committee included Mrs George A Richardson, Mrs NX ME Miller, Mrs William HE Remareres, and Mrs John TH Patt.
Bristol Mohicans football players report tonight at 7 and tomorrow at 230 pm for signal practice and drills. The squad includes Herbie Geisler Walsh Flynn Han son Crawford Alesto Maher Duhamel Rinaldi Head Lovett Dooley Scanlon Mansi. First game likely at Roger Williams Park Sunday against Cranston Wild Cats.
