Town questions Bristol Water rate hearing and parent charges

Bristol officials urged the state Public Utilities Commission to review the books of American Water Works and Services Corporation and the practice of paying the Bristol Water Co from the parent company. They urged study of rate increase plans, past charges of 91 thousand and 95 thousand, and future plant capacity to limit future rate effects.

Sewage leaks prompt study for Bristol water system

Engineers from Waterman Engineering of East Providence and Anderson Nichols of Boston report up to two million gallons daily of extraneous water enter Bristol's sewer system, about 60 percent of total flow, due to leaks and improper connections. A $157,600 study is proposed to locate repairs, followed by $168,700 for construction, with state and federal cost sharing. Emergency overflows also require fixes to prevent untreated discharges during power failures or floods.
