Campaign ends as Willkie and Roosevelt allies rally in Bristol

In Bristol Rhode Island both parties mounted last minute drives with Willkie supporters and Democratic factions claiming momentum. Reports note independents drawn to the third term issue and locals highlighting Civil Service, fiscal policy and election fraud controls as campaign themes. First voters appeared at Bristol County Court House Reynolds School and Artillery Hall with Alfonso Rebello and Philmena Pasqua among the earliest.

Troop Six observes its first anniversary

Troop Six marked its first anniversary at the Scout Hall on Wood Street sponsored by St Mary's Church. The evening featured games bobbing for apples a peanut hunt and a film reel of summer travels.

Angelo Perry Wins Annual Soap Box Derby

Angelo Perry led the field on Constitution street hill to win this year’s Soap Box Derby with Costa as his pusher. Lionel Martin took second by inches with Anthony Mattos as his pusher. Tony Sargento, last year’s winner, placed third with John D Amico as his pusher. Eleven entries finished as spectators cheered. The top three received sweaters from Senator Bertram W Wall.

Mass Meeting Planned to Discuss Bristol Hostel Appeal

A Bristol citizens mass meeting will be held Thursday at eight in Colt Memorial Hall to decide on backing a $5000 drive to erect an overnight hostel for evacuees from bombed England. Canon Parshley presided at a previous Holmes House gathering noting the effort could be the town’s largest fundraising drive.

Dance Held by Hi Y in YMCA Auditorium

Over 150 people danced to Edward Russo's orchestra in the YMCA auditorium on Saturday evening from 8 30 to 11 45 PM. Hi Y members organized the event with Joseph Camera as dance committee chairman and a list of helpers for program and refreshments.
