A town survey shows unanimous support for flood disaster insurance among waterfront business owners. Industry leaders and local officials push council to back a formal flood insurance position for consideration by the state congressional delegation, saying coverage may influence the sale of the Collins and Aikman Plant H.

The Air Force will set up a recruiting office in the Post Office starting Monday for an indefinite period. Sgt. Lester Gurney announces the Bristol Community Fund campaign has raised 20448 dollars or 97.9 percent of the 20900 target. He praises volunteers and note that residential corporate and special gifts divisions are still contributing to push the total over the top.
Frederick S. Bartlett of the Bristol Community Fund notes a record campaign total with greater participation across divisions. He commends Gurney and the team for a shipshape effort and cites reduced expenses and strong community support reflecting Bristol’s progressive spirit.
Dick Cranston Ford Sales opens this week at Court Street Garage filling a Ford vacancy since last year. Cranston, 31, WW II veteran, from Cranston, will lead service as John Borges becomes service manager. The lease is with owner Mrs. Marie L. Morris. Court Street Garage name will be dropped.
Bristolite defeated U. S. Rubber three to one in the E M C A industrial league. Joe Alves and George Travers led the Bristolite charge with strong spiking and heads up play. C and A Local 1348 and Carr tied two apiece. Next week Bristolite faces C and A while Carr meets U. S. for the second match.
The Rev William C Heffner Episcopal missionary to Okinawa on leave will speak at St Michael's Church Women's Auxiliary meeting Monday at 2pm at Holmes House. Heffner helped establish the church of Sts Peter and Paul in Naha and leads swift church growth across Okinawa with Canon Godfrey and Japanese clergy.
