Cottage Fire Twice Burned Believed Pyromaniac Act

Police and fire officials seek a suspected arsonist after two fires damaged a vacant cottage at 42 Olivet Street within four hours. John Botelho found the first blaze and Dr. John R. Bernardé reported the alarm. A second fire near Franklin and High streets prompted a later crew to contain the flames. The cottage valued at 1500 dollars was partially insured.

Armistice Day Fund appeal total donations noted

Armistice Day Committee reports strong response from individuals and organizations to its fund drive for a fitting Armistice Day program. The Bristol Phoenix will publish all subscriptions and urges last minute donations payable to the Armistice Day Committee and sent to the newspaper office. Previous acknowledgments total $83.50 with multiple donors listed including $100 and $87.50 from unnamed contributors.

O'Reilly pastor at St. Thomas Church Manton and Rhode Island Legion chaplain will be principal speaker at Kearney Post No. 6 Armistice Banquet to be held in the G A R Hall on the evening of November 10. Famous aviation officer to speak at Armistice service

Capt Rupert J Goodman Crouch commanding officer at Dunkirk will lecture at the Armistice Memorial service Sunday evening at the First Congregational Church under the Mens Union. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and recipient of the OBE. Rev Herbert D Graetz presides. R S Bosworth to be soloist.

The Cobos Aikman and Fuel Ready Engine and Hose teams open the bowling league next Monday with Babe Ethier as firemen manager and Harold Newman directing the wool sorters. Former resident Florence Gorham dies in Edgewood

Mrs Florence Warren Gorham a native of this town died Wednesday at her daughter Mrs Robert G Gifford’s home in Edgewood. She was nearly 74, born to Nathan and Mary Warren, educated locally, and a First Baptist Church member. Survived by husband Isaac Gorham, another daughter Mrs Edward P Church Jr, a son Isaac W Gorham in Pittsburgh, and three grandchildren. Funeral at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Mrs Church’s home 232 Hope Street with Rev Francis Enslin of Jamestown officiating. Burial in North Cemetery.

Lavey Plans Campaign Parade and Speech Tomorrow Evening

Senatorial candidate Thomas B Lavey on the Citizens ticket will lead a Bristol parade at 8 pm starting from 157 Bradford Street. The Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps will march with red flares to the State and Hope Street corner where Lavey will deliver a stump speech using amplification.

Bristol Rotarians Fall to Mansfield Bowling Teams

The Bristol Rotarians dropped both first and second string matches to Mansfield at the State Street Alleys. A high single of 115 and three string total of 206 led Bristol's first stringers, while DesLauriers scored 106 and 279 for the seconds. Voegeli and Keefe were top performers for Mansfield.

Funeral Services Held For Charles Thackery

Funeral services for Charles Thackery oldest Past Master of St Alban's Lodge No 6 F A M were held Wednesday at St Michael's Church with Rev Anthony R Parshley officiating. Burial followed in the North Cemetery where Master Herbert Newman read the Masonic ritual. Attending were Masons from across the state and bearers Town Clerk John W Church Stephen W Hopkins Ernest W Weaver and Robert J McCaughey all of this town.

Hallowe en party by Bristol teachers stirs school toondrum

A belated Hallowe en party was held Wednesday by the Bristol Teachers Association in the John Post Reynolds School auditorium. Seasonal decorations set the mood as games and refreshments followed. Miss Alice G Murphy won first prize in the identification contest and James F Sullivan, principal, won the peanut hunt prize. Mrs Catherine Munro chaired the arrangements with assistants including Kathleen Mc Donough and others.
