Dangerous Tram Backing Creates Thames Street Hazard
Citizens on Thames Street fear new tram movements as tracks were removed and reinstalled nearby. Trams back out from the Franklin Street station toward Constitution Street, with autos narrowly escaping. Motorman at north end and conductor at south end whistle to warn, but the bell near the motorman is ineffective, leaving walkers and drivers at risk.

James Allan Reid Pioneer of Bristol Print Life Dies
James Allan Reid a Bristol native and early Phoenix printer who helped shape state publishing died in Alton Illinois from pneumonia after a two year illness. Born January 5 1848 in Providence he moved to Bristol at age four and began printing at thirteen before his apprenticeship ended with the paper’s death.

Biography traces James A Reid and his brother Robert Allan Reid from early printing in Providence to forming Jo XL & RA Reid then Mero Read & Brother. They owned a leading Providence job office Hammond Angell & Co, produced notable local books, railway guides, art periodicals, and various histories before 1894 fires crippled the business. James later did regional publishing before moving west near St Louis and Alton.
