Roger Williams College moves to 60 acre Bristol campus plan
The college announced a new residential campus for 1957 on a 60 acre waterfront site near Mt Hope Bay, part of Ferrycliffe Farm. The site was acquired through gifts and purchase from Dr and Mrs Marshall Fulton of Bristol and Providence. The move aims to avoid conflicts with a nearby public two year college planned in Warwick and to expand Rhode Island educational access, with facilities for 800 students and professors.

Bristol taxpayers approved a total of 2 362 478 41 dollars for the coming fiscal year raising the local tax rate from 27 60 to 33 30 per thousand. A 13 member financial town meeting study committee was authorized to examine changes to the town meeting structure with meetings open to the public.

Lightning Strikes Tower Of St. Marys Church
Last night around 9 p.m. lightning damaged the St. Marys Church tower and auditorium floor. The northeast corner of the 120-foot tower fractured and a cement slab section was broken off. State Street near the church was closed to traffic due to risk of further collapse, reported to police at 9:12 p.m. by Very Rev Msgr Charles Lyte.

Memorial Day observance begins May 30 with Divine Worship at First Baptist Church in Bristol at 11 a.m. Reverend Robert E. Stetson will lead. Parade and exercises Monday include cemetery visits, a firing squad from Battery C, and ceremonies at World War I Honor Roll and Soldiers' Monument with readings by Commander John A.
