Gourmets Lead Early Little League Standings in Slugfest
In week one the Gourmets beat the Chips 16-11 to top the King Philip Little League standings. Plumbers and Franklins sit 2-1, Chips 0-4, with Ferro and Caro mile each posting three Gourmets hits. Ferrara added two for Plumbers. Bullock led Franklins with three hits. Vin Sousa drove in two for Plumbers.

Bristol Highway Starts Work On Two Vital Road Projects
The Bristol Highway Department began two reconstruction projects funded in last year’s budget. The work covers 700 feet of Dixon Ave and repairs to a washed out section of Tan Yard Brook. Repairing Tan Yard Brook has cost the town over $25,000 to date to control overflow. A 20 to 24 inch concrete pipe installation is planned to divert excess water away from the brook. Project surveyor Joseph A. will oversee the work with local officials coordinating the effort.

Bristol Teacher Receives Northwestern University Scholarship
Joseph Sousa history instructor at Bristol Senior High School earned a Northwestern University scholarship in Evanston Illinois. He will join a World History project this summer slated for 1962 publication. Sousa has Coe Fellow membership in American Studies and attended institutes and conferences in Boston College Rhodes College Brown University and other institutions. He holds degrees from Boston College and has done postgraduate work at Brown Providence College and University of Rhode Island. He serves Bristol High as class advisor for Future Teachers of America and the Model Legislature and belongs to multiple professional associations.
