Trinity Church observes 40th anniversary with special Whitsunday services

Special Whitsunday services marked Trinity Church 40th anniversary behind the parish. The day featured Holy Communion, matins, and a sermon by Rev. Lucius Waterman of Hanover, with choral evensong by Rev. Charles E. McCoy. A reception followed in the Parish House hosted by church leaders and lay officers.

Wagon and Train Collision Injures Hay Wagon Driver

A Staples Coal Company wagon loaded with baled hay collided with a New York New Haven and Hartford electric train on Thames Street near the old Sugar House. The wagon pole broke and one horse suffered a fractured nose while driver Harry Silvaria received a cracked rib. Freighter Wilfred Givermont atop the hay was thrown clear with no injuries. Doctor H L Teller treated Silvaria. Separately, Mrs Edward F Wing of West Barrington fell on High Street near the Bristol County Court House and hurt her left knee. she was taken to Dr A M Merriman's office for care.

Slashing Fight Over Bicycle Leaves Deme Injured

Joseph Deme of 41 Mount Hope avenue was slashed five inches from ear to mouth in a Sunday forenoon incident over a bicycle. Mauro Rinaldo fled after the attack. police seek him. Deme’s non dangerous wounds were dressed by Dr. Harold DeWolf.

Bristol Downs South Providence on the Common

Rain halted the seventh inning as Bristol tops South Providence 5 to 2 to win a third straight Narragansett League game on the common. Kemph opened a three run first with a triple, Murphys produced the ensuing hits, Pierce pitched well for Bristol and Almeida caught. Bristol to face the Riversides at Crescent Park next Saturday.

Fourth of July Plans Emerge From Bristol Committee

The Fourth of July Committee met in the Council Chamber and set plans for the celebration. George A. Balfour was elected manager to assemble a Bristol team for a July 5 ball game on the common. A games plan with the M. R. Co. team on Memorial Day was debated but abandoned in favor of Balfour selecting the squad. A Navy secretary letter regarding a battleship visit was read, no decision yet. Scottish clans and a bagpipe band may parade in Highland dress, with a fireworks display planned for the evening. Governor Beeckman and other officials were invited. troops from Worcester and Boston may attend. The Warren Train of Artillery and a local fire company were hoped to participate. The committee seeks additional contributions to supplement the $200 shortfall from last year.
