Town Council Special Meeting Actions and Grants

The town council approved $20,000 for current expenses and allotted $100 for the Fourth of July celebration. It instructed the clerk to arrange payments, consult the sewer commission on Bristol Neck, and consider delaying the contract if needed. Other actions include letting J H Bailey Jr use Town Hall for a stereopticon lecture, appointing Charles Doherty custodian of the gravel lot, and approving baseball and track work requests. The council also invited Babbitt Post to a church service and debated mortuary chapel plans, road repairs, and rail line improvements with the Rhode Island Company.

Colt Memorial High School Fireproofing and Marble Towers Planned

Revised plans reveal a steel brick and cement interior with massive marble exterior walls for Colt Memorial High School. Four marble pillars rise from 21 foot columns weighing 20 tons each, surmounted by Corinthian caps, opposite the Phoenix office on Hope street. The project adds about 75 000 dollars, raising total cost to about 250 000 dollars including site, making it Rhode Island’s most expensive high school and among New England’s finest.

Citizens' Movement Organized in Bristol

A Bristol voters meeting at G A R Hall formed a citizens movement with officers President James Church Secretary W A Cross Treasurer Charles F Dimond. The group unanimously commended Col Samuel P Colt for U S Senator and decided to focus on local government rather than state politics.

Angelo Chirello Captured After Clever Detective Ruse

Providence detectives captured Angelo Chirello, an 18 year old Italian, after a ruse by Capt. Morrissey and two officers posing as peddlers. He was brought to Bristol and charged with taking part in a May 10 assault on William McKeon with an iron bar. Kinder, another Italian, faced probable guilt and was bound over to the Superior Court.

Bristol Artillery Inspection Sees 88 Present and New Caps

The Bristol Train of Artillery was inspected by Major Charles W. Abbot Jr. 88 members attended including five officers. Adjutant General Frederic M. Sackett praised the unit and encouraged weekly attendance. After colors lowered, dancing and Christie’s Union Orchestra finished the night. An unknown miscreant dumped ashes on a basement cannon after the event.
