Olympians Stage First Amateur Series in Bristol
The Olympian Club of the Bristol YMCA sponsored a Friday evening amateur show at Reynolds School Auditorium to benefit the Fourth of July. Youthful tenor George Vento won first prize. Norma Locke of East Providence placed second with songs and toe taps, while Harold Buddy Congdon took third on accordion. Other performers included Elvarnia Vento and Gordon Morgan among singers and instrumentals. Mass Viola Anderson accompanied on piano. A second Town Hall Night is planned for the same venue with a stronger program. Orlando J Bishano chaired the arrangements committee, with many local organizers assisting.

Fire at Bradford Street building causes thousands in damage
A Sunday fire believed started by defective wiring swept through a double two and a half story building at 42 44 Bradford Street. Rotary bowlers banquet donates 35 to charity
Six Rotary bowling teams held a banquet at Hotel Belvedere ending the season. The $35 balance from the bowling fund was donated to buy spectacles for needy school children. Captains Newman and Duffy spoke on the league leaders and prizes were awarded for high averages and scores. The Scorpions defeated the Raspberries in a followup match despite a late rally by the latter.
