Spar Set For 14000 Mile North American Voyage
The Cutter Spar completed last minute preparations for a 14000 mile voyage around the North American continent. 58,000 gallons of fuel were pumped aboard at Melville Navy depot, with Lt. Charles V. Cowing saying fuel will carry the buoy tender through the Panama Canal to Seattle. Stops include Kingstown Jamaica Balboa Acapulco Long Beach and Seattle. The ship aims to reach Seattle around June 26 after about 39 days at sea and 5600 miles sailed. First port Kingstown next Saturday. Panama Canal May 31. The convoy aids DEW Line resupply and charting of Bellott Strait for Arctic passage. Water now fuel tanks, condenser installed. new specialists aboard. At Seattle 56 men and 7 officers will sail Sunday.

The state plans a 55 foot small boat launching ramp at State Street, Bristol. funding will be shared with federal funds and US Fish and Wildlife approval. The ramp, 44 foot concrete with a 16 foot wide middle, will sit at the easterly end of the State Street slip beside the town wharf. Construction could start in a few weeks with an estimated cost of 6500 dollars. The town leases the site to the state for ten years, after which ownership returns to the town.
