Work Starts on Bristol No. 2 Substation and Gas Upgrades

Narragansett Electric begins two stage work at Roma street Bristol for a new 66 000 to 22 000 volt 12 000 KVA transformer to boost future load capacity. New gas mains will be laid on Constitution street between High and Hope and on Woodlawn avenue to increase capacity.

Bristol workers oppose textile tariff cuts petition 600

Six hundred Collins and Aikman employees from three Bristol County towns sign a petition opposing further tariff reductions on imported textiles. The letter, led by James D. Reilly, asks senators and representatives to oppose any tariff relief that could threaten job security at Bristol plants, where about 1,100 work.

Reverend Lind to Speak at 150th St Alban's Lodge Anniversary

The Rev Dr Samuel M Lind, prominent New England clergyman and Brookline Mass pastor, will speak at a St Alban’s Lodge 150th anniversary church service on Sunday June 25 at the First Congregational Church. The four day observance begins June 22 with a reception at the Masonic Temple followed by a Bristol Yacht Club dance June 23 and a banquet June 24. The Sunday service at 3 pm ends the ceremonies.

Pyramids Club Raises Funds for Needy

The Pyramids of Charity Women’s Club held its first charity bridge in BTA Hall State Street raising funds for a local tonsil clinic. Seventy five tables were pledged with 34 in play. Organizer Mrs Vasta LaR Ruggiero announced membership reached 100, funds to aid needy children.

A Bristol Highland Women’s Republican Club formed at Mrs. Wallace Dibble’s Highland road home. Mrs. Dibble named temporary chair and Mrs. Ralph Lawson temporary treasurer.
