King Philip managers appoint 144 players to four farm teams and full league roster. All teams will practice on the common at 5 30 p m Wednesday with groups assigned to practice spots. President Roger W Pigeon announced volunteers to move bleachers to the Little League side of Guiteras Field at 6 p m Thursday.

Col Henry A Hambrick named chief marshal for the Bristol Memorial Day parade led by George R Fish as chair. The 9 30 a m march starts at Kearney Post and proceeds to North Cemetery for military dead ceremonies then to Burnside Memorial building for speeches, with Naval dead observances at the Church street dock and taps at each site.
Mrs Hortence Arruda was reelected president of the Women’s Committee of the Santo Christo Club at a Sunday meeting held in the group’s new Franklin street location. Hortence Duarte was elected vice president Sally Cabral treasurer and Alice Castro remained secretary.
The annual Court of Awards for Girl Scouts will be held in Colt Memorial High School auditorium May 25. A Week of Scouting serves as the program theme with a planning committee led by Mrs. John Egan for arrangements, Mrs. Thomas Balzano for seating, Mrs. James Foster for handicraft display, and Mrs. Joseph Dupont. Tentative plans include a cookout in June to end the season, with Mrs. Earl Pimental and Mrs. Leah Abrams coordinating details.
Seaman W Jaycox of the U S S Hyman learns his ship will berth in Bristol for the Fourth of July. The Bristol lace worker and former resident’s fiancé Miss Barbara Newman, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry B Newman, awaits news, while Jaycox’s family from Greene and later White Plains, N Y, hear of the expected liberty ashore and hospitality from locals.
A Mother's Day musical program was presented by students of Prof Nicholas Pirn at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Parish Hall. Door prize went to Mrs Lena Graves. May basket given to her, and leatherette companion vases for guests.
The Rev Frederick F Driftmier pastor of the First Congregational Church will address the Rotary Club at noon tomorrow at the White Rail. His subject is The Hawaiian Islands.
The Rev. Alex Peloso, curate at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for eighteen months, will be transferred to Kansas City for six weeks and then return to Chicago. He departs tomorrow and cannot say goodbye to all parishioners. He thanks the parishioners and Rev. Joseph Sorzana for their kindness and hopes for his Chicago assignment.
Kearney Post of the American Legion and the School Committee will present IT AM AN AMERICAN DAY on Sunday afternoon May 20 at Colt Memorial High School. The annual citizenship observance features a senior high school speaking contest with awards for the top three speakers and participation by the school district Americanization class. The organizing committee includes Raymond A. Thomas as chairman, with George R. Fish as secretary and other members. State Assembly, Town Council, and civic groups will be invited, with a mass colors presentation by veterans’ groups.
Rehearsals proceed for the Knights of Columbus produced comedy Going Places at Guiteras School auditorium May 10 and 11. Miss Frieda Nikolai of Saginaw directs with local cast led by Jim Rielly in the Uncle Billy Watson role and Val Allesandro as Jolson in the Hollywood number. Specialties by Catalano Callan Silva. A fashion show and audience participation bits complete the program.
Twilight League starts with Ascoli's Esso beating Collins & Aikman 5 to 2 on Bristol Common. Opening ceremonies featured town officials and league leaders. Pat Abbruzzi and Marty Biancuzzo homered for Ascoli's after Roy Malloy yielded four runs in the fifth.
The second annual Bridge of the Pyramids of Charity will be held tonight at Midway Steak and Lobster House to raise funds for a Ton sil clinic for needy children. Co chairs are Mrs John Lynch and Mrs James Aiello. Refreshments chair Mrs Joseph Ruggiero will be aided by students Bernardine Morris Donald Ruggiero Etta Cavallaro Mary Andrade Betty Andrade Laurine Silviera Christine Rich and Joseph Vitello. August Arruda will perform accordions during intermission.

Walter S. De Wolf son of Mrs John B DeWolf of 35 Church Street won the third Thomas Carpenter prize for elocution at Brown University. A sophomore studying for the Bachelor of Science in engineering he competed against juniors and seniors who had not previously entered.
Canon Arthur F. Roebuck of St. Pauls Church in Pawtucket spoke to the Benevolent Society of St. Michaels Church yesterday afternoon in Holmes House. He discussed the churchs influence on Lincoln and Jefferson. Tea hostesses included Mrs. Daniel Davis Mrs. Carl Tammaro Mrs. Donald Matheson and Mrs. William Liscomb. He attends the College of Preachers at Washington Cathedral in the capital.
