Elizabeth H Pitman obituary endures 40 years in town schools
Elizabeth Howland Pitman a longtime public school teacher in this town died after a two week illness of grippe leading to bronchial pneumonia. Born September 14 1843 she taught on Prudence Island and in Jamestown and was a descendant of John Howland of the Mayflower. She retired nearly 20 years ago and was active in St Michaels Church and several societies. She leaves a nephew William Howland Sweet and a niece Mrs Charles B Lewis. Funeral at 2 tomorrow at her Franklin street home with burial in North Cemetery.
