Twelve Traffic Violators In Court

Twelve persons including a Warren woman appeared before the Fifth District Court yesterday morning. Violations ranged from all night and overtime parking to driving on sidewalks. Each offender was fined 2 dollars plus costs totaling 5 dollars 80 cents. Frank Bettencourt of Third street and Lawrence Principe of E street pleaded guilty to operating at excessive speed in a High street race and were fined 10 dollars plus costs about 16 dollars each. James Gilday’s non support case was continued three months. A physician’s certificate said the man is ill and unable to work. Civil docket judgments included Solomon Nussenfeld v Marshall Bailey with plaintiff awarded 9 dollars and costs. Several cases were continued one week.

Sewer contract awarded for Gibson Road Thompson Street and Bay View

The Sewer Commission awarded the contract to William A. Gammino, Inc. of Providence to install 2130 feet of sewer along Gibson Road, Thompson Street and Bay View Avenue. The work includes 600 ft in Gibson Road 280 ft in Thompson Street and 1250 ft in Bay View Avenue.

Fire Laddies Ball Draws Hundreds in Bristol Armory

The Bristol Fire Department annual ball drew over 300 attendees at the State Armory on Church street Friday night. Four company sponsors reported social and financial success with Gen L H Callan and Mrs Callan leading the grand march and Arcadia Orchestra providing music.

Chestnuts Lead Nuts League Banquet In Rockwell

The champion Chestnuts and Nuts Basketball League teams will be honored at a Rockwell Y M C A banquet in the M C A building Thursday evening. Gold miniature basketballs will be given to winning team members. Charles Langello will toastmaster with remarks by Y M C A officials and team captains. Musical selections and Samuel Ramsay of Riverside will provide specialties.

State Tax Official to Represent State in Banking Hearing

Judge Edward L. Leahs of the Board of State Tax Commissioners left for Washington DC to represent the state before a congressional Banking and Currency Committee hearing on taxation of national banks. He will be away several days.

250th Anniversary at First Congregational Church Bristol

Large congregations attended the Bristol church anniversary events a three day program featuring visiting clergy led by Dean Luther A Weigle. The Sunday organ recital by Ralph Kinder closed the celebration after a Saturday pageant. Local and national figures joined as speakers and guests while Miss Augusta Coggeshall was honored as the oldest member.

State Medical Examiner and Bristol School Committee member Dr John R Bernardo was guest of honor at a Sunday banquet by Princi pessa Elena Lodge No 476 Sons of Italy in Academy Hall Wood Street. About 150 attended as he received a silver loving cup for his medical service civic leadership and generosity to the town and lodge.

Bristol Citizens Sewer Committee Elects Leaders

The Bristol town Citizens Committee on sewer disposal met at Hotel Belvedere and chose Charles B Rockwell Jr as chairman and Philip Brady as secretary. They discussed delaying the May 8 hearing, forming a subcommittee to present financials and prospects to the State Board, and gathering data from Woonsocket and Pawtucket.
