Mixed Choirs to Sing Cantata at St Michael's

Cantata The Seven Last Words of Thou Dubois will be presented Sunday evening at St Michael's Church attended by mixed choirs from First Congregational St Michael's and a few voices from Bethany Congregational South Attleboro. Director Pierce Anthony will lead with organ and piano accompaniment.

Cleanup Backlash as Garden Club Shrubs Are Cut Down

Bristol Garden Club members protested after shrubbery planted along Thames street near the former railroad station was cleared during a spring cleanup. Cancer Sunday Drive Planned by Bristol Rhode Island Unit

The Bristol unit of the Rhode Island Cancer Society launches its annual drive tomorrow led by Mrs Raymond J Makowsky. The drive allocates 60 percent to local aid including the East Providence Nursing Home, 25 percent to research, and 15 percent to national headquarters and education. Co chairmen Mrs Nathaniel G Gladding and Mrs Makowsky announce captains and divisional leaders with Mrs Bertram W Wall heading the Cancer Sunday effort for April 23 and Boy Scouts aiding posters and distribution.

Charter reform discussion stalls at Bristol town meeting

The Bristol town council has not yet named the seven member committee to study forms of government. Council president Dr Samuel D Clark said he had not acted but would likely name the panel this weekend. Meanwhile Frank Murphy plans to press his taxpayers’ resolution for the April 24 town meeting.

Battery C Wins Eisenhower Trophy for Second Year

Battery C of Bristol's National Guard has repeatly captured the Eisenhower Trophy, the state honor for top guard unit. The award, named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, was presented last December to Capt. Raymond J. Makowsky by Maj. Gen. Frank A. Keating. Official plans for a public presentation of the 1949 cup were not yet set, but a ceremony may follow.
