After an alleged quarrel Sunday afternoon at Saverio Mancini’s home on Bourn Street three Bristol men were wounded by gunfire. Giuseppe Castriotta fled and has not been located as warrants were issued for assaults with a dangerous weapon. Two victims were hospitalized. Romano and Palma treated at home then sent to Rhode Island Hospital. Romano later accompanied by a relative.
After months of work since December, St Michael's Church expects completion this week and Easter services to be held in the church. Renovations include redecorating, cork tile and linoleum flooring, chancel enlargement, rearranged choir stalls, relocated pulpit and lectern, lowered organ console, restored east gallery, updated vestibules, new lighting and heating, reupholstered pews with cushions, and new furnishings. The renovations are overseen by William J Manchester, Wallis F Howe, and Harry Wood with contractors J Rover Co and others handling interior decorating, tiling, upholstery, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
Palm Sunday observed as palms were blessed and distributed. St Marys and St Michaels Episcopal and Trinity and St Elizabeths churches listed Holy Week rites with times for masses, sermons, processions, and Good Friday services led by local clergy. Palestine mission offerings noted.
A new hospital room funded by the Rhode Island Woman's Relief Corps was dedicated with more than 150 attendees. The event featured speeches, musical performances, and presentations of flags, a bronze tablet, and a bed set, honoring Civil War veterans and honoring influenza patients at the Soliers' Home hospital.
The Get-together Committee for Bristol men holds a meeting tomorrow at 7 PM in the YMCA to set plans for an April 15 supper featuring Prof Z Chafee head of Harvard Law speaking on Crime and the Law. Other topics concern the movement’s future development.
