16 000 Will Evacuate To Bristol

CD Director Nelson Beals urged Bristol town council to prepare for 16000 evacuees from Providence in an emergency. About 9000 could be housed in public buildings and 7000 in private homes with parishioners urged to volunteer. If Bristol is targeted, state CD would set up evacuation for outlying areas after Providence plan.

Court Action Seen On Water Company Contract

Bristol town council president Bruno warned that court action could be used if the Bristol County Water Company contract terms change, noting a 1907 agreement allows rate reductions but not increases and citing past amendments as late as 1950. The council heard a Utilities Administration hearing summary by Martin with testimony from Samuel Bargh, president of the company, who suggested a $1,000,000 town improvement program but would not amend it to the board. Edward S. Pontes was appointed auxiliary member to the zoning board, Marion C. Cirillo Chosen Recreation Board Chairman in Town

Cirillo will replace Magee as chairman of the town recreation board after an election at a board meeting. John A. Carre becomes secretary, and Joseph E. Goulart will take Magee’s council seat on the board. A $5,410 budget was adopted for salaries, equipment, and program costs for the upcoming year, aided by Rotary Club support for Rockwell School area equipment. Local Boys to Attend Springfield Sports Festival

Twelve members of the local Y will attend the Springfield Sports Festival this Saturday in Springfield Massachusetts. The affair will include participants from 47 YMCAs in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Weight lifting will be featured as the group competes in the National Achievement Contest.
