Bristol Budget Committee Chairman Frank L. Doran says further departmental cuts would cripple operations. He notes no treasury surplus, unpaid taxes overlap cash balances, and urges building industry or tightening sensible outlays to balance the 1935 budget amid reduced purchasing power.
The U S Rubber Company basketball team of Bristol 12 players leaves tonight for Passaic New Jersey to face the local factory quintet in the annual hoop classic. Captain Chassie Le Clerc Leo Mansi Leon Lemaire Julio Borges Anthony Perry Curly Desil ets Gene Mansi Brisbane T Medeiros im Salzano Flash Ferreira Pat Gaglio with Manager J Joe Cantwell Coach Jimmie Sullivan and Assistant Manager Erasmo Mancino will travel. Royal supporters include Murphy Vergelis Elmer Rounds Tim Blease Jimmie Sisson Joe Honey Marshall Bill Marino George Bernard and Bill Ingram. A Bristol win would not surprise local fans who expect a hard fought battle against an unknown Jersey opponent.
John 1 MacDonald the Hymn Singer will headline a Sunday evening hymn recital at DeWolf Memorial Chapel Bristol. He will perform three groups with a featured solo The Fourth Word from The Seven Last Words of Christ by Theodore Dubois. Hymns include Lords and Tenderly The Stranger of Galilee In the Garden Look Down Dear Lord I m a Pilgrim Sweet Eve and Eve and Evening Prayer.
Plans for a third party formation are set for a mass meeting in Providence with delegates from civic fraternal industrial labor and farmer organizations attending on Sunday April 14.
The Bristol Home for Aged Women hosted an old time sing by the World Wide Guild of the First Baptist Church on Franklin Street. The program featured Mrs Joseph Alger Mrs Charles Tiscomb Miss Dorothy Mott and others with Dora Bailes at the piano and included songs such as Old Folks at Home Whispering Hope and When You and I Were Young.
Local Democratic leaders split over endorsing a visiting physician for the Soldiers' Home. Dr John R Conway of Warren is favored by key town figures while Dr William F Duffy has backing from Judge Edward L Leahy and Senator Thomas H Byrnes.
Due to Hope street excavations and repairs for a new State highway, Providence Bristol buses detour via Wood street to High Street State Street and Thames Street to Hope Street on return. The Hope street segment from Guiteras School junction to Herreshoff's boat yard is without bus service.
Chief Anthony J Ferrara and Capt William S Baker Jr of the Bristol Police Department can wear their proper insignias after former chief Richard J Kavanaugh returned property including two revolvers badges cap shield and keys. Capt Baker in charge while Ferrara is on furlough accepted the items. Council members plan court action to recover the town owned property.
Pupils of the private Lee School hosted a supervised program before an eight day closing. The program featured songs piano solos recitations and rhythm dances by students including John Dimond Eartha Brown Natalie Herreshaff Dorinda Dixon Marion Munro Van Tingley Teddy Flint and others with Mrs Fred L Dunbar and Mrs Robert Munro as leaders accompanists and coordinators.
The Bristol Train of Artillery Band packed the Guiteras Memorial School auditorium despite foul weather. Guest soloist George M Tinker of Providence impressed with an operatic tenor voice and clear diction while Joseph Andre’s clarinet solo and the James Ruggiero Harry Kebrek cornet duet drew strong applause.
The Brown Club of Providence announces a prize scholarship for a Rhode Island resident entering Brown University this fall. The award honors scholastic ability character and leadership. Previous winners include William W Moss Jr and Benjamin A Chase Jr. the committee selects the recipient.
Three Bristol County towns unite to press for lower water charges from Bristol County Water Co. Committees compile data on contracts and past attempts while a state engineer report suggests rates exceed those in other Rhode Island communities. A Senate vote on a resolution to empower the Public Utilities Commission could trigger a mandatory rate investigation.
Prescott B Paull is appointed to the committee arranging the Jefferson Day dinner for the Democratic State Committee in Providence on April 14. Other members are to assist in event planning and coordination.
Bristol native Angelo Bruscato fights tonight for the featherweight championship in Chicago. The bout and other undercard fights will be broadcast at 9:30 p.m. local time.

Bugle and Drum Corps hold 1 o clock practice with Instructor John Zimmerly teaching drill for the council Jamboree next month.
