Readers respond to a recent unsigned letter titled Square Deal. Letters accuse three council members of steering town policy, question meeting calls, and debate council dynamics and political management.
Bristol citizens discussed Col. Samuel P Colt's offer to retain water works for two thousand dollars annually and to fund improvements. Colt suggested lowering public rates and possibly covering seven years of unpaid town expenses, with future private-service pricing depending on pipe and filtration upgrades. Bristol and Warren committees planned further talks while Bristol negotiates with Colt and the Water Works Company.
The General Assembly vote on the U S Senator shows Colt, Wetmore, Goddard, and Utter receiving various tallies. The tally numbers listed include figures 55, 37, 30, and 40, indicating the distribution of votes among the candidates.
The Pro and Con Club will not meet tomorrow due to a Brown University basketball game. On Wednesday April 3 the group will debate Resolved That Municipal Ownership Would Be a Benefit with Geo Clowes and Robert Munro for the affirmative and Hon H H Shepard and Ira Shepard for the negative. A special music program is planned.
Palm Sunday services were held at St Michaels Church Trinity Church and St Marys Church with solos and choir hymns. George W Warren O W Young and J Louis Coggeshall performed Palm Branches Behold Thy King O Day of Penitence All Glory Land and Honor Ride on in Majesty and palms were blessed and distributed at the masses.
