Bristol Town Council Elects Officers and Passes Business
A Bristol town council meeting last evening elected town officers for the coming year and conducted other business. Officials named include free warden Arthur P Dunbar, highway surveyor candidates Alexander G Fales and Charles M Maytum with Fales re-elected, health officer Thomas F Head, sealer of weights and measures John E Conley, commissioner of the asylum Charles S Cummings, and town hall agent Peter J Lannon among many appointments. The license for Dennis Ryan to sell liquor at 212 Thames street was granted, and various council committees were formed to handle water works, sprinkling contracts, bridge bids, and grounds care. A request to call a town meeting on April 9 for water committee reporting was tabled. Brave Maj Raymond H Perry dies at Bristol Hotel
Major Perry a Civil War veteran and cavalry officer who served as United States Marshal in western Texas and as Galveston police chief died after a long illness. Born in Bristol, he traced lineage to Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry and led a life of travel service and public duty across Rhode Island, New York, Texas, and the Caribbean. His career included artillery service, cavalry commands, consular roles, and praise from General Sherman for his bravery and vigilance.
