Banquet Plans Electroned By Bristol Alumni Association

Alumni Association of Bristol-Colt High advances plans for a testimonial banquet honoring Rev. Edward L. Walsh soon after his return from Rome where he was ordained to the priesthood last December. Committees include finance publicity schedule and reception with local officials and classmates arranging honors. Walsh, son of former town leaders, is a Colt Memorial High School and Providence College graduate who studied in Rome.

Fire at Monroe Avenue home causes $1500 in damage

A daytime Monroe Avenue fire caused $1500 damage to a two family house owned by Roger Walsh. The blaze started in a second floor closet, spread through partitions, and damaged furniture. both families were away, with tenants Mrs Donald Gladue and Sewer Commissioner in the second floor unit. Firemen battled for about an hour, aided by three local units after a general alarm. Insurance covered losses for both families.

Bristol Veteran Receives Purple Heart Honor

Andrew Arone of 17 Mason Avenue Bristol, a World War I veteran and former corporal in Company A, 38th Infantry, 3rd Division, received the Purple Heart with oak leaf. He was wounded at Chateau Thierry and gashed in the Argonne and will be honored by Kearney Post 6 American Legion at the next meeting.

Altar Society Holds Successful Food Sale at Our Lady of Mt Carmel

The Altar Society of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church ran a successful food sale Saturday evening in the parish hall on Congregational Street. Cake candy and spaghetti dinners were offered with Mrs Louie Capone as Chair of the general arrangements committee, aided by Mrs Geverine Trovano, Mrs Pandy Bernardo, and Mrs Pra Pormisane, plus Mrs Paul Villemaggr, Mrs Beatrice Abenante and the Misses Anna Abenante, Anna Squatritte, Josephine Squatritte, Frances Grime, and Anna Pirr.

Charles B. Rockwell, chairman of the school committee, announced on Saturday that Dr Waltham J. Serbst had resigned from the school committee. The move followed the appointment of three new members who had ousted Dr William F. Duffy, long the inspector for the district. The inspector post paid $750 yearly.

Bristol Observes St Patrick Day With Parades Dances And Tea

Bristolians marked St Patrick’s Day with a torchlight parade, church events, a children’s carnival, an Irish tea party, and performances at Guiteras and Iteras Memorial. The St Mary’s gathering hosted 350 plus children with a half day holiday, while the Sea Scout and Bellevue Boys dances drew crowds over 350. Performances included a one act play, a Cavern sketch, and school orchestra numbers under Miss Jessie Molasky and Amon Jamiel, with Fr Thomas J Gillan celebrated for his first sermon as pastor in 1908.
