Rev Robert J. Chrystie Ph D minister leads Sunday services on March 16 with 10 45 AM sermon Gods Work Remembered at noon church school 6 45 PM Epworth League and 7 30 PM sermon The Religion of the Ordinary. The public is invited.
The Forward Step Supper as part of the First Congregational Church’s 250th anniversary drew over 100 attendees in the Memorial Chapel. Rev Ernest S Wisner of Newport delivered greetings to Bristol church and stressed the church’s essential role for community and world, with Rev Herbert D Graetz presiding and a volunteer committee led by Mrs Le Roy D Bell organizing the event.
The second in the series drew a good-sized crowd at State Street M E Church last evening. Ministers from State Street M E Congregational and St Michael's joined in the observance with Rev Dr Albert Thomas of Fall River delivering the address and leading hymns. Next Thursday March 20 Rev Frederick A Wilmont of Providence is scheduled to speak.
The annual Bristol town meeting on March 17 faces major asks including a $400000 sewage disposal project financed by bonds, a World War Memorial building estimated at $225000, and a new elementary school around $200000. Additional road and departmental appropriations push total proposals above one million dollars for the meeting.
Ten piece Arcadia orchestra will supply music for the big social on May 2 at the Church Street Armory. Dancing to start at 8 pm and continue until 2 am. grand march at 9:30 led by Gen LH Callan and Mrs Callan. Samuel Jo Smith elected floor director with assistants. joint committee reports show event details well organized.
Paul Berlanger of 227 Thames Street was arrested yesterday noon after a dinner dispute. He allegedly threw a glass beer bottle at his wife Leontine Berlanger, causing a scalp wound. He was arraigned with a not guilty plea and bailed $200 for a Fifth District Court appearance. Dr John R Bernardo treated the wound with several stitches.
Colt High School heads to Warren for the second intertown game in a series. A large Colt delegation will attend as Bristol and Warren supporters fill the auditorium. Warren won the previous meeting 24 to 14 on January 31. Colt recently lost to St Mary’s Taunton 26 to 17.
The Social Committee of St Rita’s Club of the Church of Our Lady of Mt Carmel will hold a bazaar on Saturday evenings starting April 26 and continuing May 3 10 17 24 and 31 in the parish hall on Congregational Street. Donations of articles will be received for sale to benefit the church.
Frank Dunham manager of the Fall River Chamber of Commerce delivered the keynote at the Rotary Luncheon praising optimism as essential for community progress. He urged a balance of hopeful action with measured pessimism and cooperation to benefit Bristol and surrounding areas.
The Providence Land Company sold four lots on the Hope Villa plat east of Metacom Avenue and north of Hopeworth Sanitarium Avenue to Giuseppe Russo and others. Joseph W. Freeman sold to George R. Herrland buildings on the west side of Highland Road. Beachmount Land Company sold a lot on Beachmount Manor Plat to John Matsano and others.
The Bristol Rhode Island Joint Committee on Sewage Disposal presents a supplementary report to be considered at the Annual Financial Town Meeting in March. It recalls actions since December 1929 including a Special Town Meeting vote, a January 20 1930 state hearing on pollution charges, and state permission for time to seek bond authorization for sewerage improvements. The report references engineer proposals by Fay Spofford Thorndike and notes continued discussion and a continuation on page eight.
