In January 1813 the Macdonough privateer challenged a large ship near the Atlantic coast. After a fierce exchange with heavy casualties, the Yankee and Macdonough pursued, capturing prizes including Angenoria and Amity. The Yankee later voyaged 150 days on the Africa coast with eight prizes and $296,000 in value.

The U. S. Rubber Products hoop team defeated Burkes Inc of Fall River 50 to 24 at the local recreation hall on Wednesday. Frank Sylvia led scoring with 361 on three strings and a 158 single. Manager I Leo Cantwell’s squad used all players and dominated the Bristol court. Ferreira Bruno and Mansi led for U. S. Rubber. the Mc Avoy brothers starred for Burkes.

Recreation Training Institute in Providence opens April 13
The National Recreation Association will bring leading experts to Providence for a four week training institute starting April 13 for teachers and recreation workers. Mrs George H Crocker announced the program which covers leadership in games dancing music athletics physical and social recreation arts and crafts and nature activities. The full course costs 15 with the association covering more than half the cost. Evening classes are available for those unable to attend daytime sessions.
