M C Smith Jr Honored At Bristol Testimonial Sunday

About 200 Bristol residents gathered at Colt Memorial High School for a surprise testimonial to M C Smith Jr general manager and secretary of Bristol Manufacturing Company. The event, sponsored by the Bristol Rubber Club, featured presentations including a walnut desk and desk sets, with remarks praising Smith's role in industrial rehabilitation since the 1931 Keds plant closure.

Colt Students to Publish Green and White Again

Colt Memorial High School students under Erik Bense plan to publish The Green and White in late May marking the return after last year’s cancellation. Irish Tea Party Planned by St Mary's Mothers Club

The Mothers' Club of St Mary's Church schedules an Irish Tea Party in the church auditorium on March 19 from 5 to 7 pm with a children's entertainment and sale from 2 to 4 pm. The committee of arrangements includes chairs and numerous parish volunteers.

Budget panel warns cuts and reserve set aside

The Budget Committee endorses total appropriations slightly below last year and preserves a reserve fund. It recommends against buying a new fire pumper and lowers the Highway appropriation from 18000 to 15000 while proposing street light restoration and other reductions. It also advises charging outlying districts for garbage and reallocating CWA materials to Public Aid.

Old Bristol Residence Damaged by Fire

A Bristol Colonial home on Pappoosesquaw Road owned by the Samuel P. Colt Estate and occupied by Mr and Mrs W Stanley Barrett was destroyed by a fire discovered about 8:30 PM during an NE snowstorm. Firefighters fought the blaze from five hose lines. a collie died in smoke, a cat was saved. The furnace is blamed. the house with 10 rooms valued at 20000 and Barrett furnishings at 35000 were insured.
