State Health Dept Survey Cites Few Serious Sewer Cases

The Bristol town council heard an investigation report on sewage disposal problems in unsevered Bristol areas. Four residents reported difficulties with sewage backing up into cellars and one facing disposal issues. sewage was seen flowing onto a road. The study, prepared by Carlton A Maine, senior sanitary engineer, was requested by Planning Board chairman Dr Russell S. Bray.

Second Policeman Resigns From Force

The Bristol Police Force grows to 13 as three new officers were appointed by the Town Council following Officer Louis DiLauro's resignation. The new recruits Goglia Mancieri and Brown, all past reservists, may start duties this Sunday while pay scales and funding specifics are discussed.

Bristol Unveils New Fire Truck for Municipal Use

Bristol’s new 150 H.P. International fire pumper will arrive about 9:30 tomorrow. The $10,800 unit, built by H. M. Howe Co. of Providence, includes a 500 gpm pump and high pressure fog system, plus extensive equipment and hoses. It will operate from Dreadnaught Station with a rescue squad team and mutual aid hydrant connections.

Spar Prepares For Arctic Trip

Coast Guard cutter Spar will depart Bristol on March 16 for Curtis Bay shipyard. An ice belt, water evaporator, electronic systems and extra fuel tanks will be installed before a May 26 departure through the Panama Canal to the Arctic. Return is planned for April 7.

Bristol Charter Push Reaches 725 Signatures for Election

A Bristol charter drive reports 725 signatures toward a charter election, meeting the legal minimum. The committee, led by Anthony DaPonte and Angelo Almeida, aims to explore town government forms and submit petitions to the Town Council by March 21 seeking at least 1,000 signatures.

K. of C Accepts Post Office Offer For New Site

Bristol could gain a new post office and Knights of Columbus headquarters if talks succeed. The K of C Building Ass'n took a 180 day option with the U S Post Office Department on land and a building at 105 State Street, as the town council was asked to rezone the site from residential to business. Ongoing negotiations for a new post office have been under way for months, with the K of C home site identified.
