Bristol YMCA defeats Taunton YMCA 24 to 18 in a hard fought gym game. Poole and Balfour led scoring early, with L Wood, Simister, Wardwell matching for Bristol. Taunton briefly led before Bristol rallied with key baskets in the second half to seal the win.

Elizabeth B. Miller Obituary from Pawtucket

Mrs Elizabeth Burden Miller former town resident died Monday in Pawtucket after a two day illness. Born in 1811 to sea captain George Monroe she married Horace Miller at 18 and moved to Pawtucket where she lived. Oldest member of St Pauls Episcopal church and likely the town's oldest resident at nearly 97. Survived by two sons including Dr Horace Miller of Providence and two unmarried daughters. Funeral held yesterday at St Pauls Pawtucket.

Antoine Collard Dies After Illness at Home

Antoine Collard died about 11 30 Wednesday evening at 290 Thames street after several months illness. Aged 63 or 64, born in Canada, he came to town twenty years ago. He was a mason by trade and leaves a wife and seven children. Funeral at St Mary's church tomorrow at 10 o'clock with entombment at St Mary's Cemetery.

Bristol Town Council Special Session and Memorial Hope

The Bristol Town Council met in a special session with all members present. Action included notifying Suburban railroad officials for macadamizing 18 inches on the west side of the tracks from Hope and Thames to Half Way Hill. The regular monthly meeting followed with most items approved, including memorializing Provincetown for a memorial stone and approving expenses of 45 dollars for the memorial slab.

Fire Company Meetings Report Uniform Caps and Arlington Visit

Regular monthly meetings of Hydraulion and Dreadnaught fire companies were held Wednesday evening. The Hydraulion committee on uniforms reported purchase of 80 red caps and invitations to visit Arinetos. At the Dreadnaught meeting three members were elected. Members applied for A2A membership and a company letter invited attendees to Arlington Hose Company fair on April 6.

Taxpayer questions town salary rise without vote

A Phoenix reader challenges the town treasurer's report claiming assessor salaries rose last year to 450 dollars, 50 more than usual, and asks by what authority such an increase was made without town approval. The letter seeks clarity on the vote or mandate behind the extra expense.

District Court Denies Bond Reduction in Bessing Case

District Court at Warren yesterday saw Max Makowsky refuse to act as bondsman for Jacob Bessing. A Providence man was substituted as surety. Bessing, jailed last week on grand larceny charges, faced bail set at 12000 which Judge Bosworth declined to reduce. W T O'Donnell, representing the state, urged the cut. Also continued for one week is the manslaughter case of William A Tierney over the death of Arthur Adams, a Harrington lineman.

Colt Memorial High School progress amid heavy snowfall

Work on Colt Memorial High School continues despite severe winter weather. Marble for exterior walls on the east and north sides is laid, with west and south walls advancing. Superintendent Fagan expects the roof within six weeks, then interior work. Roof already placed on the east side auditorium. interior waits. Four marble pillars for the Hope Street entrance will arrive in a couple of months. each is 21 feet high and weighs 20 tons.
