Beginning at sundown Saturday and continuing through Thursday, Jewish communities worldwide observe the Feast of Esther. Services are planned in the synagogue on High Street. The Book of Esther is read as Hebrews recall deliverance from persecution inspired by Queen Esther and Mordecai, with Haman’s plot thwarted and Jews given a right to defend themselves.

Fire Chief Anderson Struck By Auto In Morning Crash
Fire Chief Robert J. Anderson of the Bristol department, 58, was hit by a southbound car on Thames street at 5 25 in heavy snowfall. He suffered a calf laceration needing five stitches and shoulder injuries, was treated by Dr William L. Serbst, and taken to his home at 616 Wood street. Driver Leonard Rawson, 30, stated he did not see Anderson in the road and the weather obscured vision. The accident occurred opposite Mayer Paley’s junk yard near the Franklin street garage. Anderson was en route to fetch a truck for the State Department of Public Highways.
