State House talks on Bristol caucus nominating rules
Captain Robert N Turner questioned whether Bristol caucus nominations were legal or illegal since no state law governs caucuses in towns without a special caucus law. Secretary of State Charles P Bennett said majority or plurality may apply, and Bristol’s lack of rule means majority would rule. Turner floated a mandamus option but did not pursue it. An aggrieved candidate could challenge after votes are counted, though unlikely.
