Settlement ends DPW overtime clash over July cleanup
A DPW contract dispute led workers to refuse overtime after the Fourth of July parade, threatening a slow cleanup. The town and Steelworkers Union reached a settlement granting a 7 percent raise, avoiding arbitration and allowing overtime cleanup to proceed with state help and adjusted staffing.

Parade Chairman Announces 13 Visions and Bold Lineup
In his second year as parade chairperson, Mr Chase unveils a 13-vision plan including a Chief Marshal's Division led by Frank Balzano who will ride in the parade despite recovering from a heart attack. New musical units marchers up to 7,500 participants, with bands from Fort Meyer Virginia, Cherry Hill North Carolina, and New London Connecticut. Floats exceed 20, three Fort Devens units join, and political figures including Sen John H Chafee and Sen Claiborne Pell are slated to attend along with clergy.
