Drowning at Public Bath Ends Local Swimmer Life
The first drowning of the season occurred Saturday at 3:30 PM in Bristol harbor near the public bath house. Charles Burke, 18, an expert swimmer, disappeared while swimming to a distant float. bystanders and helpers including John Walsh, Herbert Geisler, and Francis Vera failed to revive him. Medical Examiner Dr. Siegel ruled drowning. Burke, born August 15, 1903, was buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery after funeral services.
