Arctic Explorer Stefansson Named Prophet of the North
Dr Viljalmur Stefansson, born 1879 in Manitoba, earned the Hubbard Medal in 1919 for Arctic discoveries. He promoted self supporting life in the far North and helped open northern air routes while guiding research at Dartmouth. He recounted polar feats including a 1914 600 mile trek with sled and dogs to Banks Island.

Senator Neuberger Invited to Fourth of July Parade
The Fourth of July Committee invited U S Senator Richard Neuberger and his wife Mareen to Jamestown Rhode Island for the holiday. The committee hired the Washington Park Culmination Drum Corps from Meriden Connecticut and accepted Swansea American Legion Band for the parade at no cost. A Jr Sr High School Band concert may be held, and the Chief Marshal's Reception will be at the Kearney Post Home with George R. Fish as marshal. A tag day is planned for Friday July 1.

Four Playgrounds Open June 27 Board Told

The Bristol telephone dial system will go into effect at 3 01 am Sunday marking the end of the Bristol exchange. Numbers will switch to new codes Clifford 3 Cherry 5 and Frontier 9 with toll free service to Providence reaching over 150 000 telephones. Miss Helena Wells at Tiverton exchange becomes chief operator after decades with Bristol and John F Kelly notes all 40 Bristol operators offered transfers or positions elsewhere to preserve employment.
