Hawthorne Tender to Leave Local Base Amid Economy Push

The Hawthorne with a 25 man crew arrived March 23 to relieve the Pansy at Constitution Street. Abandonment of the base is planned around July 1, with the dock and sea wall to be used only for harbor equipment storage. Captain Harold C. White says transfer likely from New London Third District to Boston Second District is planned for Narragansett Bay operations.

Twenty six to graduate from St. Mary's School

Twenty six members of the Eighth Grade at St. Mary's parochial school will graduate at exercises in St. Mary's Church auditorium. Rev. Thomas J. Gillan will present diplomas and Rev. Milton King will deliver the principal address. Valedictory by James Edward Conley and salutatory by Frances Dolan. Class includes 14 girls and 12 boys with officers: President Joseph Gallagher, Vice President James Conley, Secretary Cornelius Gallagher, Treasurer Charles Byrnes.

Attendance officer James F. Meiggs submits May figures totaling 240 cases handled. Of 235 reported, 16 were truants, 89 sick or slight illness, 39 absent for family events, 33 due to clothing, 9 sent for proper papers, 33 sent back to school, 1 taken to court, 5 provided with shoes and clothing, 16 picked up on the street.

Pilot to Inspect Wire Order at Bristol Plant
