Town Council Holds Special Session Adopts Several Measures

Town council met Tuesday with full attendance and processed multiple items. Plans for a mortuary chapel were discussed with brick preferred by most members, vote to table until June 18. sewer funding and main road work debated following a citizen petition. Additional items included vendor licenses, fireworks permits for July 4, and continued consideration of night police captain appointment.

Building Improvements On Hope Street Renovated Shops Open

The former Easterbrooks property on Hope Street bought by Charles H Manchester has been thoroughly renovated. Ground floor now hosts a confectionery and periodical store run by William M Connery and a tailor shop managed by Samuel Goldes. Second floor leased to Knights of Columbus with a large assembly room and two reading and smoking rooms. Building piped for water and sewer and wired for electricity. plate glass windows added. business district improved.

Portraits of Former Bristol School Superintendents

Superintendent John P. Reynolds received yesterday two portraits of former Bristol School leaders Dr. Thomas Shepard who led 1849 to 1855 and George B. Monro who served 1855 to 1859. Donor Rev Hezekiah Monro of Andover Mass was Monro’s nephew. Reynolds aims to assemble portraits of all Bristol High School principals, though some images are missing. Existing portraits include Lafayette Burr 1849–1841, Dr Nathaniel B Cook 1851–1860, and A O Carter. The portraits will hang in Colt Memorial High School upon completion.

Drowned man John Bent found near Usher's Cove

Two fishermen discovered the remains of John Bent, a cor old man, floating in the harbor near Usher's Cove yesterday morning about 11. Medical examiner Dr. W. Fred Williams ruled accidental drowning. Bent, about 81 and of Indian extraction, was identified by letters and a name tag. The body was to be buried after services at Wilbur's undertaking rooms.

Bristol High School Graduation Exercises in Opera House

Graduation exercises at Bristol High School will be held at the Bristol Opera House next Wednesday at 4 pm to accommodate attendees at Brown University. Principal Thomas W. Bicknell will deliver the address.
