Town moves toward land lease on former Penn Central site

Town Administrator Anthony Agatiello says state DOT will sign a ten year lease with option for ten more on the Thames Street property. The 50 foot right of way remains, and the land could host a marina, a waterfront park, and possibly relocate the Prudence Island Ferry, with further studies on breakwaters and future uses.

Rail service restoration eyed for East Providence to Warren

Bruce Burdett reports on a proposed 2.5 million state and federal plan to restore freight rail from East Providence to Warren under Providence and Worcester Railroad. Critics argue Bristol County may not need it while supporters cite potential benefits and a larger 156 million transportation bond funding 110 million federal match for roads airports mass transit and rail statewide. Voters on June 28 face a 41 million bond that would drive the four year program but excludes interstate highway projects including I-895.

RWC Trustee Reforms Sought Amid Faculty Demands

Roger Williams College Acting President William Rizzini declined to comment on trustee reform steps and said a release would come at the appropriate time after trustees reportedly met to discuss the matter. This week he noted no further details were provided.
