Bristol lists 90 X card holders in latest rationing update

Bristol War Rationing Board released a corrected list showing 90 persons and industries holding unlimited gasoline X-cards. Capt Paul A. Herzig said 32 X cards have been turned in since issue and four holders yet to appear for checkups.

St Marys Pupils Lead In Salvage Contest

St Marys Parochial School leads with 1577 pounds of scrap rubber toward a five dollar prize in the Salvage For Victory drive. Reynolds and Guiteras schools follow, with 916 and 703 pounds respectively, as the townwide effort totals 4244 pounds. The community drive for scrap metals and rubber begins tomorrow at 9 30 a m south of State street and west of Metacom avenue.

Mack graduates from Great Lakes Navy Service Schools

John I. Mack, 19, of 360 Wood Street, this town, has graduated from the Navy Service Schools at Great Lakes Illinois. He completed a 16 week aviation machinist mate program and will be assigned to a fleet ship or naval base for further instruction. Service Schools graduates may take qualifying exams for third class petty officer ratings.

Statewide blackout planned next week across June period

The State Council of Defense will conduct a state wide blackout from June 9 to 12 between sunset and sunrise. A general mobilization of all workers will occur at blackout time with factory whistle signals. Air raid sirens may be used and local war production sites are urged to minimize light. Signals Green 1 to Green 4 will guide timing.

Lt Gov Cappelli to Address Bristol High Graduates

Lieut Gov Louis W Cappelli will speak at Bristol High School graduation exercises in the Andrews Gymnasium Thursday evening. The address title is Young Americans. Acting Principal John Burke released the program naming John Cordeiro to distribute diplomas and Rev. Herbert Graetz to deliver invocation and benediction. Class officers, committee members, prizes, and gifts are listed with colors red and gold.

Judge Walsh to Speak at Bristol Air Raid Wardens Graduation

Judge Charles A. Walsh will deliver the principal address at Bristol's Air Raid Wardens graduation Sunday at 2 30 PM in Reynolds School auditorium. Lt Col George R. Bristol bus stop schedule revised to meet government orders

A new Bristol bus stop timetable was presented to the Town Council by the New England Transportation Company to comply with Office of Defense Transportation rules. The plan removes the double loop, adds a Half Way Hill stop, and allows minor adjustments with Providence departures due to terminal capacity.

War Correspondent recounts perilous desert flight and rescue

Edmund Stevens of the Monitor recalls a Libyan desert flight in a Bleinheim when an engine failed and the plane landed safely in a standstill. RAF and Free French aid arrived, mail was saved, and the crew moved toward a further trek to a New Zealand camp for repairs and resupply.
