Town to appoint new solicitor amid tax bill dispute

The Town Council may appoint a new town solicitor after the death of Joseph A Hammill who held the post since 1931. Lucien Capone is rumored willing to take the job but not seek favors. A disputed $11 946.06 bill to the State over sewer repairs from 1931 is on the agenda along with liquor law amendments and bids for gasoline oil and beach concession rights.

Festival at St Elizabeth's Church Honors Blessed Virgin

Sunday night ceremonies at St Elizabeth's Church marked the crowning of the Blessed Virgin. Daughters of Mary Sodality members led a procession, Miss Emily Furtado crowned the statue with white roses and lilies of the valley, banner carried by Miss Furtado, assistants bore flower baskets for the Virgin Mary statue.

Parella Graduates From La Sallette College

Mr and Mrs Frank Parella of 249 High Street will travel to Hartford tonight to meet their son Joseph Parella who has graduated from La Sallette College and has been accepted for the Bloomfield novitiate. The Colt Memorial High School graduate will study at Bloomfield for one year before entering Our Lady of La Sallette Seminary in Altamont New York for ordination preparations.

Kiwanis Charity Dance Sets June 6 With Horace Heidt

Horace Heidt and his Musical Knights, praised as versatile by radio, will headline the Kiwanis Club Providence annual charity dance at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. Proceeds fund the Lung Clinic at Homeopathic Hospital and aid underprivileged children and infantile paralysis patients.

Red Cross War Relief Appeal Urges Wider Bristol Given Support

Rev A R Parshley president notes only a tiny proportion of Bristol residents have contributed to the American Red Cross war relief fund. He warns Europe’s acute need requires prompt action and asks readers to increase donations this week. Checks should be made payable to the Bristol Branch American Red Cross. Fourth of July Committee Reschedules Meeting

In respect for the late Police Chief Thomas Ryan Dwyer his funeral was held yesterday and the Fourth of July celebration committee postponed last night’s meeting to Wednesday night. The meeting will be in Senator B. W. Wall’s Makowsky building office with Daniel Dwyer, former chief’s son, having chaired the committee for years and Norah Dwyer serving as assisting Secretary.

Rev Joseph Poja, formerly pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, has returned to New Haven after many years in Italy. He left Bristol in 1931 due to ill health and has now recovered and is said to be his old self again.

Boy Scout Circus Prep Underway At Guiteras Field
