Muck rake used to threaten higher fire insurance rates
The New England Insurance Exchange in Boston at its midsummer meeting urged sharp rate increases for all fire risks in New England though specific classes and amounts were not decided. The exchange aims to recoup San Francisco losses, a plan criticized as unworthy by insurance opponents who accuse grafting authorities of trying to shift costs to the insured and the public.

Bristol team questions schedule and missed games
The Bristol Phanix editor is urged to explain why Manager Lafontaine filled out a Bristol schedule listing Gorham Base Ball Association on July 14, Colored Giants on July 21, and Rovers on July 28 all in Providence, while the Bristol team has played only four games since April. Residents, citing weather but insisting on action, express disappointment and request timely games, proposing River Point Independents as an alternative.
