Annual Masonic Outing Sails to Tiverton and Newport Harbor

Nearly 200 members and friends of St Alban’s Lodge No 6 joined a midsummer outing aboard the steamship Sagamore. The party toured Conanicut fences and Tiverton before a shore dinner at 2:45 pm, then played a lighthearted ball game. After five innings the score stood 18 to 5, amid misplays and hot conditions, with the Sagamore returning to Bristol by 10 pm. Refreshments and a string quartet accompanied the trip.

Fireworks and Band Concert on the Common

A large crowd from this town and nearby areas attended a fireworks display and a concert by the Banda Roma of Providence on the Common Friday night. The event, honoring the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, had been postponed from July 16 due to rain. Some pieces were rain-damaged but aerial bombs dazzled the spectators. The band marched earlier, then rockets were set off at P. Bruno’s residence on Bradford street. Cars on the consolidated and suburban lines were crowded around the celebration.

Newport Victory Repeats 7 to 0 Win Over Bristols

The Bristols lost again to the Newports by 7 to 0 in Newport. Poor Bristol batting and strong Newport defense kept Bristols from crossing the plate, with only one Bristol runner reaching second. Newport pitcher Burns fanned five and allowed only five hits as Southwell Cambria and Butler led the Newport offense. Mulligan and Fairbanks debuted for Bristol with solid defense.
