Fireworks Signal Big Day of Local Celebration
A multi day town celebration featured band concerts by the Napoli and Boston Napoli bands on the common, a parade under Chief Marshal Raymond Cavallaro, a high mass at Our Lady of Mt Carmel, and a fireworks finale. A baseball game saw Kid Hope's team beat the Whirlwinds 10 to 9. Thousands attended the Napoli Band concert and fireworks display after the parade along State and Wood streets.

Defiance Hose Company answered a still alarm Friday night as a haystack near the Colt Drive entrance on Hope Street burned. It marks a second haystack arson this month by a prankster whose actions ruin workers’ daytime labor and pride.

Break-ins on Union and High streets yield little stolen
Three homes on Union Street and High Street were entered late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. In two occupied houses intruders appeared bold, while at DeWolf's home entry was through a rear window and an ice pick damaged a desk. A flashlight and a broken knife were found. Morris home was ransacked while the family was at Prudence Island, with drawers emptied and items scattered.

Auto Strikes 10 Year Old Dorothy on Bradford Street
Dorothy Madeirds aged 10 of 217 Wood Street was struck by an auto operated by Joseph R. Cabral of 188 Metacom Avenue on Bradford Street Saturday evening. The car, owned by Frank Sousa of 14 John Street, took her to Dr. John R. Bernardo for treatment. She suffered a cut behind the ear and abrasions on the knees and left arm. Police report says the girl darted from behind a parked car as Cabral's auto approached.
