Miss M Theresa Sullivan leads the Bristol Train of Artillery Band after impressing with The Mikado production. Her reception as bandmaster followed her success conducting the orchestra and directing principals and chorus, boosting local musical and dramatic entertainment.
The U S Civil Service Commission will hold a rural carrier examination at Bristol R 1 for Homestead route with a 24 mile standard. The Aug 8, 1930 deadline applies for applications. exam dates will be about ten days after, with admission cards mailed after filing closes. Salary is 1800 dollars per year plus 30 dollars per mile over 24, allowances for equipment. Forms 1977 obtainable from the vacancy office or Washington DC. applicants must be domiciled in the post office district and provide two year photos at the exam.
The Misses Catherine Ebbitts Mary Mason Barbara Huestis Christina Byrnes and Jessie Sanford returned yesterday from a two weeks stay at Camp Hoffman Girl Scout camp in South County. Miss Ebbitts earned the trip as a reward for most merit badges and others also earned camping trips for meritorious work. Ruth Molaski Jeanette Mary McLaughlin Frances West and Kathleen Mott left yesterday to attend.
George R. Fish outlines an ambitious Scout program for Bristol’s 250th anniversary. Scouts will run information booths, man first aid and safety platoons, operate a weeklong camp, and stage demonstrations three times daily. A Friday Round-Up gathers 800 scouts with a parade and dinner, followed by an indoor jamboree and a Historical Floats Parade float involvement.
Two sets of four part tests determine earning an athletic badge with events on rope climb broad jump sprint throwing and distance throwing. Manuel Cardosa is the only boy to pass both tests while several others completed Test 1. A Horrible Parade will be held Friday at 3 pm with six prizes for best costumes along a church to state street procession.
The Kristal Garden Club schedules a three act comedy to support the 250th Anniversary horticultural show. Miss Theresa Sullivan directs the cast which includes Rae Salisbury Claudia DeWolf Virginia Leahy Shirley Newman and boys Francis W Hayes Harold De Wolf Jr Charles B Rockwell III James B French Jr Julius Palmer and Jack Caulkins.
The Ports mouth Camp Meeting Association marks its 40th anniversary with a ten day interdenominational gathering from July 25 to August 3. Rex Seth Rees of Pasadena and Pilgrim Holiness Church arrives with Rev CB Fugett Nazarene evangelist from Ashland Kentucky. Charles L Slater of Kingswood Kentucky leads music with solo and choir duties. Miss A Cora Slocum of Baltimore plays piano and Miss Mabel Masher of Newport directs children and youth meetings. The camp is on Hedley Street west of Quaker Hill in Portsmouth with bus access.

In memory of the late Rev William Ramsay Trotter a recital at Trinity Church featured Miss Helen Church organist and contralto and Arthur Newman organist at State Street ME Church. Both were Trotter's pupils with Bristol friends present and the 1897 organ renewed in 1928 by John Frederick Duthie. The program opened with In Memoriam played by Miss Church as the audience stood, followed by organ solos and vocal pieces by Church and Newman including Refuge Divine and Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled.
The Whirlwinds defeated the Nationals 8 to 2 as Battery C forfeited the game. Dick Chapman hit two home runs for Providence College star and led the winners with 11 team hits and 19 total bases while Shag Bell, Chapman and Baker added two singles each.
