Pie-Eating Contest Set For Wednesday at Town Common
The annual pie eating event will occur Wednesday the 15th at 2 pm on the Town Common with 70 pies from Sunset Bakery. Entries have hands tied behind backs and the first two winners receive prizes while all contestants get soft drinks. Senior, Intermediate, and Junior groups compete. Playground closures and a Monday refreshment for marathon participants are noted. The Bristol-Warren play-day is planned for Thursday August 3 on the Town Common.

John D Colt To Direct One Act Play
Bristol Community Players plan a membership meeting and a one act melodrama in the Colt Memorial Auditorium on September 16 directed by John Drew Colt whose family donated the marble building. No admission charge. Board meeting set for July 26 to discuss the membership program. Full scale productions are planned for October and April by the Bristol Community Theatre, the town’s last active theater group, which disbanded in 1947.

Extortion Attempt Reported At State Pier Bristol
A Long Island couple visiting Bristol said a man tried to extort payment for dock space at State Pier at the foot of Church Street. They were told temporary visitors need not pay for a day or two, then another man claimed state authority and demanded money but did not press the claim, and he left. The couple, unfazed, extended their visit and enjoyed Narragansett Lay and Bristol Harbor before continuing their cruise aboard Captain Manny Sousa’s Prudence.
