Madonna Feast Celebrated by Italian Residents Parade and Band Concert
The Italian community marked the Madonna of Mt. Carmel feast with a Friday church service and a Saturday parade. A Colt Band concert, ice cream stands for charity, and a N I R Co versus American Rubber Co ball game drew crowds. Races and events on the common featured a 3 mile race won by Kinnane, a 2 mile race won by Geisler, a potato race for boys won by Langello, and a greased pole event where William Folke secured all prizes after a rope-assisted ascent. The crowd appreciated the music by a 30-piece band under William Ferrara, ending with a Madonna and child image lit by fire wheels.
