The annual Bristol Recreation Blueberry Pie Eating Contest drew more than 160 youngsters who raced the clock at Bristol Town Beach last Thursday afternoon for first prize and bragging rights.
Farm's Bar owner Phil Taldone criticizes Town Administrator Balzano's plan to close bars before the Fourth, saying there is no link between the riot and open bars. He cites over a century of celebrations, police deployment, and a minor incident at his pub, urging dialogue with police and owners instead of closures.
The town council plans a special meeting at 7 30 pm in the council chambers on Tuesday July 24 to appoint a new town solicitor after Albert A Nutini announced he will resign effective July 31. Nutini cited workload exceeding expectations and may have opposed a rezoning linked to contractor Richard Alegria.
Rubin Wood Products won approval for a special variance to permit a single family dwelling on a 49 foot lot on Charlotte Dr amid neighbor protests that reduced lot width would lower property values. Kenneth Philips urged caution and Aubin cited hardship from spending 5000 on the lot. The board granted the petition after executive session. Also approved were Bristol Texaco Inc for a 6000 gallon gasoline storage facility.
Bristol Recreation Director Anthony E. Agatiello reports vandalism at the Town Beach Cedarcrest Hope Villa and Town Common including stolen equipment destroyed toilets damaged and a gate latch jarred. Town closes all playgrounds at 9 pm after agreement with the Town Administrator and requests town involvement to identify culprits.
